WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Do you know what is considered one of the most hazardous jobs in the country? It's highway construction. In 2012, 609 workers and motorists were killed in highway work zones nationwide.
April is the start of highway construction season across most of the country, and this is National Work Zone Awareness Week.
This year, it's all about the consequences of speeding through a work zone, including fines, jail time or even a life. Speeding offenses through a workzone can cost you up to $1,000 in Maryland, up to $500 in Virginia and double the original fine in D.C.
