WILLIAMSPORT, Md.(WUSA9) -- Officials with The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park say that the Big Slackwater Bridge superstructure and deck will be replaced over the next 60 days.
The work is being done to improve the bridge's load rating, say officials.
The Federal Highway Administration and its contractor will remove and replace the bridge, according to officials.
The road leading to the Big Slackwater Boat Ramp will be closed at the Dam 4 parking lot starting on or about April 2 and is expected to reopen on or about May 2, say officials. Only official traffic will be allowed beyond the park gate.
Officials tell us that the park and towpath will remain open.
The construction is expected to be complete in time for the spring boating season.
