BETHESDA, Md. (WUSA9) -- Flocks of fans followed a returning Tiger Woods for 18 holes Thursday morning at the Quicken Loans National, but when noon hit, many others chipped golf to the rough.
Fans at Bethesda's Congressional Country Club gathered around a few scarce televisions to watch the United States Men's National Team in its final World Cup match against Germany.
The Grey Goose vodka tent near the 18th hole at times was near capacity, with fans packing it in to watch the game on the tent's lone television.
Nearby, fans with clubhouse access gathered in the main hall, where the World Cup game was being shown on four big screen televisions, along with a catered lunch.
One Team USA fan said, "I started golf when Tiger woods came on the scene but come on, it's the USA. Tiger Woods in one hand and USA on the other. Gotta go USA."
Another fan said, "It's the first Thursday of the tournament. I wandered by here, saw that they had a TV and I'm planting myself here."
