Wizards 98 Bulls 89
With three impressive quarters behind them the Wizards put themselves in position to win game four rather easily. However, the Bulls did not go quietly. With under two minutes left in the game the Bulls were able to cut the Wizards lead down to eight. That would be the closest they would get. Trevor Ariza would make the decisive basket to put Washington up by 12 with just one minute to play. Ariza was the dominant scorer all game, finishing with 30 points. John Wall notched another double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Gortat and Booker stepped up their play with the absence of Nene, combining for 25 points, 15 rebounds, and 4 blocks.
As the game came to end the Verizon Center faithful began chanting "Free Nene". They are going to get their wish, as Nene will return for game 5 as the Wizards have a chance to clinch the series with a win in Chicago. It would be their first series win since 2005, notably that was against the Chicago Bulls. Game five will be at the United Center Tuesday, April 29. Tip off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
Third Quarter Recap
Wizards 82 Bulls 62
Whatever halftime adjustments the Bulls tried to make did not work. The Wizards continued their dominating performance in the third quarter. Trevor Booker has filled in admirably for Nene with five rebounds and three blocks. There is no doubt though that Trevor Ariza has been the star for the Wizards. He has 27 points and is 6 for 9 from long distance. After scoring 20 points in the first half the Wizards held Gibson to zero in the third. Washington looks poised to grab a convincing win and take a commanding 3-1 lead in the series.
First Half Recap
Wizards 55 Bulls 40
The Bulls showed some signs of life in the second quarter at one point cutting Washington's lead to just four. But the Wizards went on a 17-2 run to finish the half which was capped by a buzzer beating three from Trevor Ariza. Ariza has been deadly from long range shooting 5 of 6 from the three point line. What may be more surprising is that the Wizards have held Mike Dunleavy, their tormentor from game 3, to zero points. Chicago's Taj Gibson has kept the Bulls in the game with 20 points. Despite not having Nene the Wizards out played the Bulls the entire first half and look do the same in the final two quarters. If that's the case they will have a commanding 3-1 lead in the series.
First Quarter Recap
Wizards 28 Bulls 18
The Wizards had less than 24 hours to prepare for a game without power forward Nene once finding out he would be suspended for game 4, but as always the Wizards got off to a hot start. The early start time proved to be no problem for Washington as they jumped out a 14-0 lead. Trevor Ariza has been the key scorer hitting 4 of 5 from the field, including a perfect 3 for 3 from the three point line, and 11 points. Trevor Booker has filled in nicely for Nene so far with two blocks.
