Washington Nationals' Bryce Harper has been placed on the 15-day disabled list after injuring his thumb sliding into third base on a game Friday night verse the Padres. Immediately following the the game, Harper had X-rays taken on his thumb which came back negative leaving many to breathe a sigh of relief.
Despite X-rays coming back negative it was reported that Harper's thumb was severely swollen and there was no clear timetable for his return. Harper was held out of the Nationals' lineup yesterday and met with a hand specialists.
After undergoing an MRI it was determined that Harper should be placed on the 15-day DL with the move being retroactive on Saturday. Steven Souza Jr. was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse to take Harpers place on the roster.
