Maryland has become the first state to have its high schools endorse USA Football's Heads Up Football tackling program.

The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) now will have its 24 school systems across the state determine if they will follow the endorsement and implement the program for safer play.

This is the first season that Heads Up Football is available to every high school in the country. Last year the program was piloted by 35 high schools across 10 states.

USA Football is the governing body for youth football in the United States and is supported by the NFL.
