FALLS CHURCH, Va. (WUSA 9) -- Last year the Mosaic Bowl made its preview as a high school football bowl game. This year the bowl game will feature Falls Church and Annandale.
Falls Church coach Said Aziz said the Mosaic District shopping center sponsors the bowl game. He said the game is set to feature two local high school teams.
Aziz said Annandale has a difficult football program. He said the Jaguars are excited to play the Atoms in the bowl game for the first game of the season.
"It's a great first game that will set the tone for the entire season," Aziz said.
He said the teams are geographically close together and he expects the game to produce a large crowd.
"It's a good rivalry," Aziz said. "We hope to start the season off strong."
Annandale coach Mike Scott said the bowl game will be a big game for both teams.
"The Atoms are on the right path," Scott said. "The players have a lot of energy and excitement."
Scott said the team is preparing for the Mosaic Bowl as it would for any other game. He said the goal is for the Atoms to get better as the season develops.
"This is a big game," Scott said. "We hope to be the best we can be."
The 2014 Mosaic Bowl will be played at 7:30 p.m., Sept. 5 at Falls Church High School/Paul Weber Stadium.
