SKYESVILLE, Md. (WUSA 9) -- Century girls' soccer won the Class 2A state finals last year and coach Sara Figuly said the team is striving to achieve the same success this year.

"The girls know they need to practice hard and play hard," Figuly said.

She said the team has a lot of players returning since only four seniors graduated last year. Figuly said the team started a new circuit training program that focuses on speed and endurance.

"We are going to take it one game at a time," Figuly said.

For leadership, Figuly said the two team captains help guide the other players. She said the girls work together as a team.

"Every girl plays a part on this team," Figuly said. "Everyone has to do their job."

She said because of proximity Liberty is traditionally the team's biggest rival. Figuly said all the teams in the county are competitive.

"We can't take any game lightly," Figuly said.

Century's first game is against Thomas Johnson at 11:30 a.m., Sept. 6.
