ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA 9) -- The varsity field hockey team at St. Stephen's/St. Agnes just had its first preseason practice, but coach Ali Beach said the team is ready for a repeat championship.

"We are certainly really excited about the upcoming season," Beach said.

She said the team is working on tightening up its skills and will focus on the bigger picture later.

"They are an athletic bunch," Beach said. "They're so coachable and ready to learn."

With eight seniors graduating last year, Beach said the team had to adjust to some changes. She said the senior class is smaller this year, but has great leadership skills.

"They are exceptional in skills," Beach said. "We have leadership on each line of the field."

Beach said she is hopeful that the team will go beyond the first round of states and receive another ISL title.

"We'll be competitive for a repeat," Beach said.

St. Stephen's/St. Agnes will compete in the Nyborg Tournament against Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School at 10:15 a.m., Sept. 6.
