HYATTSVILLE, Md. (WUSA 9) -- DeMatha coach Elijah Brooks said the football team is going into the upcoming season with strong momentum.

"We hope to put ourselves in the running for a championship," Brooks said.

He said the team has been working hard in the offseason. Brooks said his players have been conditioning three to four days a week.

"We are hoping to keep up that momentum throughout the season," he said.

Brooks said the team has some great returning players and is excited for the year.

"We have great expectations for the players who step out on the field," Brooks said.

DeMatha's first game of the season is at 7 p.m., Aug. 29 at Archbishop Wood, Pa.
