OLNEY, Md. (WUSA 9) -- It's that time of the year again; local high school football teams are preparing for the upcoming season.
The first week of practice has just been shorts and t-shirts, but the Good Counsel football team will be practicing in full equipment next week.
Head coach Bob Milloy said the team is faced with a tough schedule this season being matched up against good-quality teams like Gonzaga, Woodrow Wilson, and DeMatha.
"You can only get better by playing good teams," said Milloy.
Despite the tough competition, Milloy said he has high expectations for the season.
"We take it one day at a time," Milloy said. "You can't worry about DeMatha and have Woodrow Wilson beat you."
Milloy said the entire offensive line graduated last year, so they are a young team this season. The starting quarterback and eight defensive players, including two top tacklers will be returning to the team.
The team had a good turn out and the players have great attitudes, Milloy said.
"If you have the talent where a guy can step up and play for another position, then you're going to be successful," he said.
Good Counsel's first game is at 7 p.m. on Sept. 29 at Woodrow Wilson High school.
