BETHESDA, Md. (WUSA9) -- You can run into some very interesting people while you're walking around the course at the Quicken Loans National Golf Tournament, before the actual golfing begins.

On Tuesday, we got to sit down and talk about golf and the Big Ten Conference with legendary University of Maryland Basketball Coach, Gary Williams.

"I'm a member here and the golf course is fantastic, even when it's not tournament time," Coach Williams said.

Gary showed us his 2002 championship ring and he talked a lot about UMD's upcoming transition to the Big Ten, on July 1st.

"I was shocked when I first heard about the switch to the Big Ten, but I know we're good enough to hold our own," Williams said. "We're good enough to be there. We're as good as any other basketball team in the conference," Williams said.

Williams will be actually covering the golf tournament for Comcast SportsNet this weekend, so he'll be able to enjoy the festivities and be close to the action.

Williams also challenged the fans to show up at the games.

"If they don't show up, it'll be an arena or stadium full of fans from Columbus," Williams said.
