Fairfax, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Corey Allen Jr. scored the game-winning basket with two seconds left as South Florida Bulls narrowly defeated the George Mason Patriots, 68-66, in a non-conference game at the Patriot Center.
Allen Jr. had 19 points and three steals for the Bulls (5-2). Victor Rudd added 15 points while Chris Perry had a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards.
George Mason (5-3) was led by Sherrod Wright's 22 points. Bryon Allen scored 14 points while Mark Gujanicic chipped in 11.
The Patriots shot 42.5 percent from the field in the first period and made 3- of-7 shots from behind the 3-point line. George Mason held a 34-29 lead at the break. The Bulls struggled, shooting 37.5 percent from the floor and 1-of-5 from 3-point range.
The Bulls went on a 18-0 run with 12:19 remaining to erase a 17-point deficit. The final 7:56 saw the scoring margin never get higher than six points for either side. With 21 seconds remaining Allen tied the game up at 66-66 with a 3-pointer. After a succession of substitutions and two timeouts, Allen Jr. knocked down the late jumper to seal the victory for South Florida.
USF picked up the victory despite shooting a mere 1-of-9 beyond the arc.
