CHICAGO (AP) - The U.S. men's soccer friendly against Ukraine is in jeopardy.

The United States is scheduled to face Ukraine in Larnaca, Cyprus, on Wednesday. But the game is in doubt because of the upheaval in Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula.

The U.S. Soccer Federation says Monday night in a statement, "We have been in contact with the Football Federation of Ukraine and are awaiting final confirmation that the team is still planning to travel to Cyprus for the match."

Russian troops tightened their stranglehold on the peninsula Monday, openly defying the U.S. and the European Union and rattling world capitals and stock markets.

The United States' friendly against Ukraine is part of its preparation for this summer's World Cup.
