ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. (WUSA9) -- A three-foot sinkhole has opened up on Route 50 near Exit 21 (off of I-97), officials say.
Authorities said Wednesday night that all eastbound lanes of US50/US301 in the area of I-97 and RT 665 (Aris T Allen Blvd) are expected be to closed through the night and early morning as crews complete emergency repairs.
According to authorities, traffic has to go to RT 665 and then back onto US50/US/401 by using Riva Road or Solomons Island Road.
Crews determined Wednesday that a metal pipe, associated with the drainage system deteriorated and collapsed. The void will be filled with stone, authorities said. The sinkhole is 24 inches in diameter.
The sinkhole was discovered around 5 p.m. by a driver, authorities said.
Delays in this area should be expected.
