WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- The pilot of a F-15C that crashed in Virginia on Wednesday has died, the Massachusetts Joint Force Headquarters said.

In a statement released Thursday the joint force headquarters confirmed the pilot's status.

Col. James Keefe, Commander, 104th Fighter Wing said in the statement: ""Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and we are doing all we can to support them during this very difficult time," Keefe added: "We ask that everyone respect the privacy of the family and allow them the time they need to grieve."

The pilot's name is currently being withheld.
