Three relatives of Pope Francis were killed early Tuesday when a car driven by the pontiff's nephew collided with a truck carrying corn near Cordoba in Argentina.
The nephew, Horacio Bergoglio Emanuel, 38, was driving the car shortly after midnight when it rammed the back of the truck moving in the same direction on a mountain road near the town of James Craik, the newspaper Clarin reports.
Killed were Emanuel's wife, Valeria Carmona, 38, and their two children, 8 months and 2 years. Emanuel was hospitalized in serious condition.
Emanuel is son of the pope's brother, Alberto Bergoglio. Pope Francis, 77, was born in Argentina.
