CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A police officer and his wife were arrested on sex charges, and the officer has been placed on unpaid administrative leave pending the outcome of the case.
Officer Reginald K. Harris of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department here was arrested Wednesday on nine sex charges — three counts of first-degree sex offense, three counts of indecent liberties with a minor and three counts of crimes against nature — police say. Information his age and whether he and his were were in jail was not immediately available.
Dia Harris, 40, faces 12 charges: three counts of felony child abuse, three counts of indecent liberties with a minor, three counts of crime against nature and three counts of first-degree sex offense.
The charges stem from a criminal investigation that began July 3 and revealed that Reginald Harris sexually assaulted a family member on several occasions between 1999 and 2002. The victim was a minor at the time.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police hired Reginald Harris on Jan. 13, 1988, according to personnel records. Authorities are looking for additional victims.
