BOULDER – It doesn't matter how good it smells, Robert and Jessica Foster refuse to bite in to a burger like they used to. Over the last two years, the couple lost 280 pounds together.
"We started off having a really emotional conversation at the end of March 2012," Robert Foster said.
"It was more that we wanted to become healthy, fit role models for our kids," Jessica Foster said.
If you knew the Fosters back then, chances are you wouldn't recognize them today. In 2012, Jessica weighed 287 pounds and Robert weighed 327 pounds.
"I was the guy that on the weekend if I didn't have 15 pounds of pork in my smoker it wasn't a weekend," Robert Foster said.
After they decided to go all in, Jessica took the lead.
"I did Zumba in the beginning and it kind of kickstarted my weight loss. I dropped 14 pounds within a month," Jessica Foster said.
They started out small, making minor adjustments to their workouts and their meals. Each month, they pushed harder and harder. Fast-forward to today and they now only eat plant-based foods, they run several miles per week and they also lift weights.
"I look at food differently. I look at it as a fuel for my body that I need to put fuel in to it so I can keep going. And I need to put the right kind of fuel in," Jessica Foster said.
Sure, there are still those cravings from time to time. But when they've been able to accomplish far outweighs those random urges. Especially when it comes to having energy to spend time with their kids"
"We're going to be around for a while, a long time." Jessica Foster said.
