HOUSTON — What was your senior prom like? Well you can probably bet it won't match up to Crosby High School football player Mike Ramirez.
He had a Houston Texans cheerleader pinning his corsage on Saturday. His dream has become a reality, thanks to Twitter. It all started back in February.
"I direct messaged her and I was all like if I get 10,000 re-tweets, will you go to prom with me? I'll ask you in a cute way. And she was like, of course," said Mike Ramirez.
Caitlyn, the Houston Texans Cheerleader said her life has changed since that moment. The media frenzy began with radio stations and media outlets, from all over the country, reaching out to her.
"I think I accepted it almost immediately," said Caitlyn. "The moment it got 10,000. I got text messages galore. Saying you're going to prom. Oh my gosh!"
The pair, while having never met in person, made sure to coordinate of course.
"We had to get that down. We couldn't show up in two different colors," said Ramirez.
Ramirez isn't the only one whose prom dream will be one for the yearbook.
"I'm so excited. I get to take a limo this time. I drove my own car last time I drove to prom," said Caitlyn.
Ramirez's mother made sure to prepare her son.
"He can take it from here. I told him to be nice and courteous and to just enjoy the night," said Monica Cortez, his mother.
Ramirez said he will make sure to mind his manners.
"Everybody's nervous. The first five minutes we'll be good. I'll just be myself," said Ramirez.
And if all goes well, maybe a second date?
"I hope. Maybe a wedding probably," said Ramirez.
Caitlyn declined to comment. "I plead the fifth," said Caitlyn.
Whatever happens, they are off to a great start.
"I'll probably be smiling for a long time," said Ramirez.
It will be a night to remember for both of them.
