CONGAREE NATIONAL PARK, S.C. (AP) - Searchers are looking for a father and his two children believed to be lost in the Congaree National Park.

Family members say J.R. Kimbler took his 10-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter for a hike at the park. They don't think he planned to spend the night because he left his daughter's medicine and his cigarettes behind. The family was last seen around 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

Park spokeswoman Dana Sohen (SOH'-in) says search crews have checked about one-third of the 27,000 acres in the park east of Columbia.

The search will pause at dark but will continue Tuesday. Sohen says officials have closed the park until the family is found.

Authorities say Kimbler sent a text message Saturday night. Family members say he told a friend he was lost.
