The video above shows the only known recording to capture the entire assassination of President John F. Kennedy. An amateur shot the famous footage exactly 50 years ago today. The video has been digitally stabilized and interpolated to mimic HD TV by a YouTube user.

The iconic film is named for the man who shot the footage: Abraham Zapruder. That day, he left his camera at home but decided to get the Bell & Howell 8 mm movie camera on his lunch hour to film the motorcade's trip by his office in Dallas. He was devastated by the tragedy unfolding in front of his lens.

More than 100 artifacts are on display in the Newseum's JFK exhibit, Three Shots Were Fired, including the gun of the Secret Service agent who jumps on the back of the presidential limousine, as seen in the Zapruder film.
