RICHMOND, Va. (WUSA9) -- Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe released a statement following the Supreme Court's decision to issue a stay in Virginia's same-sex marriage case.

The Governor called the decision a "temporary delay to the inevitable conclusion that Virginians who love each other should have the opportunity to marry regardless of sexual orientation."

The court issued the block on Tuesday afternoon, putting a hold on same-sex marriages in the state of Virginia.
