RESTON, Va. (WUSA9) -- A big change in lifestyle is coming for lots of folks in Northern Virginia. On Saturday July 26, the long awaited Silver Line will be added to the Metro system.

The public, including the man who came up with the idea of Reston in the first place, got a view of one of the major parts of the transit system, the huge parking garage at Wiehle Avenue station.

They cut the ribbon for the 2,300 hundred space garage at the station in Reston on Saturday morning. Weihle Avenue will be the end of the new Silver Line until the second phase is complete in about 2018.

It will cost $4.85 a day to park there, or you can get a reserved space for $65 a month.

The new garage is one of only a few places you can park near any of the five new stations that will begin operating next Saturday.

There is no parking in Spring Hill, though it does have a kiss and ride lot.

Mclean also has kiss and ride, but no parking. You can't park at all at the Greensboro, or Tyson's station. Local strip malls and Tyson's corner mall have put up new signs warning commuters they are not allowed to park in their lots.

All of the stations have bus service which will drop you off right at the entrance.

There are bike racks at all the stations and at Wiehle Avenue there is a bike locker that can handle 200 bikes. That will cost cyclists a $75 yearly fee.

Robert Ortega, who was checking out the locker on Saturday says he will now bike there from his home a mile and a half away instead of taking his car all the way to the Vienna Metro station. He says it could save him two hours a day.

The man who founded Reston back in the 1960's, Robert Simon who is 100 years old now was also at the ribbon cutting. He says he's thrilled that his entire concept, including rail, is now in place.

Local leaders are also gushing over the opening of the first phase of the Silver Line and looking forward to phase two, with six more stops.

Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-VA) says it took 19 years to get the Silver Line done, but he's thrilled now.

The second phase of the Silver line, already under construction, will add six more stations from Wiehle Avenue past Dulles Airport and into Loudoun County.

Passengers can ride the new line starting at noon on July 26. A round trip from Weihle Avenue to Largo will cost $11.80 with a Metro Smart Card.

The cost of the first 11 miles of the Silver Line has topped $2.9 billion.
