CENTREVILLE, Va. (WUSA9) -- A Virginia man was cited on a weapons charge after a loaded firearm was found in his carry-on bag at Dulles International Airport.
Transportation Security Administration officers spotted a .38 caliber handgun, which was loaded with five rounds, in the man's carry-on bag as it was passing through the checkpoint's X-ray machine, officials say.
TSA officers contacted the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police who confiscated the firearm and cited the man on a state weapons charge, officials say.
This is the third gun that has been detected at one of the airport checkpoints so far this year.
The TSA reminds travelers that weapons are not permitted in carry-on bags; details on how to properly travel with a firearm can be found here.
