WOODBRIDGE, Va. (WUSA9) -- Fire and rescue units responded to a fire in a three story town house in Woodbridge, Va. Tuesday morning.

Rescue units responded to a fire located in the 13000 block of Brookside Court in Woodbridge.

All residents had already safely evacuated the house by the time firefighters got to the house, authorities said.

Fire and rescue units went into the kitchen area and found extensive smoke and fire damage with extension into the living room. They put out the fire and check the rest of the house, authorities said. Smoke and heat damage were found on the first and second floor of the home.

One resident was taken to a local hospital for smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported, according to authorities.

Red Cross did offer to help the four adults and two children, however services were not required.

Authorities said, the home has been posted as unsafe by the building official.

The fire is currently under investigation by the Fire Marshal's Office.
