Employees failed to put out the fire with an extinguisher, according to officials. Approximately a dozen employees and customers escaped unharmed.
Officials tell us that firefighters encountered heavy black smoke coming from the roof as well as fire from the ventilation ducts. They were able to get the fire under control in approximately 25 minutes, but the fire still resulted in approximately $100,000 worth of damage.
About 20 employees and customers from adjoining businesses were evacuated until 6 p.m., according to officials. The restaurant remains closed.
According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental and caused by an uncontrolled grease fire in the kitchen.
