STERLING, Va. (WUSA9) -- A woman was caught at Dulles airport sneaking cocaine into the country that was hidden inside caramel candy, officials said.
Customs seized more than 1.5 pounds of cocaine from a Honduran woman at Dulles airport on Wednesday. She arrived on a flight from El Salvador.
The cocaine filled candy was found in a brown cone shaped package wrapped in cellophane, officials said. The woman told Customs agents that they were caramelized sugar cane sweets from Honduras.
"A CBP officer probed one of the sweets with a knife and discovered a white, powdery substance on the blade that field-tested positive for cocaine," officials said.
All eight pieces of candy had cocaine inside, a total of 1 pound, 10 ounces, officials said. This cocaine could have a street value of more than $80,000.
The woman has requested entry as a courier on business, officials said. She was returned abroad the same day and is barred from returning to the U.S. for a minimum of five years.
