STERLING, Va. (WUSA9) -- Sunday morning, an 81-year-old man lost his life when his car hit a highway sign and a light pole in Sterling.
According to Loudoun County Sheriff's Office authorities, 81-year-old Craig McKee was driving a 2005 Toyota Prius eastbound on Algonkian Parkway just east of Quaterpath Trace Circle at 3:16 a.m. when he lost control of the vehicle.
The vehicle crossed the left straight lane and left turn lane, say officials, before entering the grassy median. It then struck a highway sign, crossed the two westbound lanes of Algonkian Parkway and left the north side of the roadway before hitting a light pole.
Authorities say the vehicle continued down an embankment and hit some trees before coming to rest.
McKee was taken to Reston Hospital, say authorities, where he was pronounced dead.
