SPRINGFIELD, Va. (WUSA9) -- Eight people are without a home after an apartment fire in Springfield this weekend.

Fairfax County firefighters responded at approximately 6:10 a.m. Saturday to a three-story apartment in the 6500 block of Lee Valley Drive.

Firefighters encountered smoke coming from a bottom apartment and quickly extinguished the fire, say officials.

The damage was confined to one apartment and the damage loss is estimated at $35,000.

No one was injured during the fire. Red Cross is supporting the occupants who were displaced from their home.

According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental and caused by a ceiling-mounted light fixture.
