SILVER SPRING, Md. (WUSA9) -- The right northbound lane of Route 29 is shut down after flooding caused the road to wash out into water.

North branch of the Anacostia watershed started to overflow Wednesday afternoon, and when water could not get under the bridge, it overflowed across Route 29.

The wash out created a 30 by 50 foot hole in the Burnt Mills area. We're told the hole is about six feet deep.

Officials say the lane will likely be closed for a say or two.
