DUNKIRK, Md. (WUSA9) -- A Maryland woman says she's lucky to be alive after her car fell 40-feet off the Bay Bridge on Friday night.

Morgan Lake was driving across the Bay Bridge, when she was involved in a crash with a tractor-trailer.

Her car went off the side of the bridge and fell into the Chesapeake Bay.

"When I felt my car tilting over slightly, I thought: I'm not going to make it," Lake said.

After the car fell into the water, she had a moment of panic. That's when she thought she wasn't going to survive and she had to do something.

"Water filled my mouth ... I felt like I was drowning, and I didn't want to. I hit my seat belt, at this moment my eyes are closed, so I had to visualize what my car looked like. I rolled down the window, got out of the window, pushed off of my car and swam up to the surface of the water," lake said.

Lake also says she thinks she's a living miracle. Her family agrees.

"I'm glad she's still with us and that she's whole," Morgan's mother Melanie Lake said. "It is my worst fear, what we've gone through in the past 48 hours.
