PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. (WUSA9) -- Prince William County School Board announced Wednesday that Easter Monday will now become a full day of school for students at all levels, and the last day for classes for PWCS students will be two days later than on the original school calender.
The board said both changes will help make up for the missed instructional hours that were lost to weather-related closings this year.
The changes were approved in a Wednesday meeting. Extra minutes will be added to every school day through the end of the school year, the board said.
Taking these measures will allow all PWCS students to have no less than the required 990 instructional hours required by the state of Virginia every year, the board said.
These changes were made in addition to other schedule changes that were made in February, according to the board. All changes can be seen here.
Changes will be made again if there are more weather-related closings and delays, the board said.
The Board Chairman At-Large Milton Johns said that no approach could please everyone, however the board is asking for the public's understanding, in order to provide students with the school time they need and deserve.
