OLNEY, Md. (WUSA9) -- It's probably a decision Montgomery County police officer Mauricio Veiga wishes he could take back, but the damage is already done.
Officer Paul Starks of the Montgomery County Police Department says they got a call around 1 a.m. Thursday morning from a concerned citizen.
Starks says a person inside The Greene Turtle in Olney called to say they saw Veiga drink alcohol there and then stumble into his police cruiser and take off.
"We tracked that car to a few miles away, made the stop and then that officer was charged with charges related to DUI," Starks said.
The 40-year-old officer did not want to talk when we stopped by his home. Starks says he has been an officer with Montgomery County for more than 10 years. Veiga was also charged with driving without his lights on.
Starks confirms that Veiga is still getting paid while on administrative leave, as is department protocol.
