SALISBURY, Md. (WUSA9) -- An armed fugitive threatening to kill himself was captured by police after a chase on Thursday morning.

Deshawn D. Darling, was wanted for violating probation in Delaware. 38-year-old Darling's most recent residence was believed to be in Salisbury, Md.. At about 9:15 a.m. Darling was seen leaving his residence in a Dodge van.

When police tried to stop Darling he drove onto Route 13 and intentionally rammed into an unmarked Maryland State Police car, police said.

Darling then led authorities on a chase.

During the chase a man identifying himself as Darling called 991 and said he was going to kill himself, police said.

Officers followed Darling to a parking lots in the 1300-block of North Salisbury Boulevard where he was taken into custody without further incident.

Officers noted that Darling was wearing a bullet-proof vest at the time of arrest and had a handgun in van.

No injuries occurred during the chase, but two minor crashes occurred, police said.

The first crash was between a police and civilian vehicle. A second accident happened when stop sticks were deployed by police and Darling swerved into oncoming traffic to avoid them.
