ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (WUSA9) -- Howard County Police have identified a 61-year-old man who was shot and killed by officers on Saturday morning in Ellicott City, Md.
Police say Hernan Milton Ossorio had a knife when he confronted police at a home in the 5000 block of Montgomery Road at approximately 6:30 a.m. Someone had called 911 prior to their arrival to say that "someone with a knife was going to kill everyone in the house," according to police officials.
Ossorio approached officers in the front yard, police said. Officers deployed a Taser when he refused to drop his weapon. Police say that was ineffective and he refused their repeated orders to drop the knife. Two officers then fired their weapons, according to police.
Police found two large knives at the scene.
Family members told officers that Ossorio had been talking about suicide recently, police said. A family member was at home during the incident but was not hurt.
The officers involved in the shooting, Police Officer First Class Russell DiAngelo and Police Officer Susannah Raff, were put on paid administrative leave.
