PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. (WUSA9) -- After 200 years, a soldier from our area is finally getting recognition.
Brigadier General Leonard Covington was born and raised in Aquasco. The General died while leading the third brigade third brigade into the Battle of Crysler's farm during the War of 1812.
On Tuesday, a new historical roadside marker was unveiled on Aquasco Road to honor the fallen hero.
Historian Ralph Eshelman said the honor was overdue: "other states have recognized him, towns have been named after him, counties have been named after him, but here in Maryland, he's a forgotten hero."
