FREDERICK, Md. (WUSA9) -- The Frederick Police Department is investigating a police involved shooting that happened Saturday night in Frederick, Md.
The shooting happened around 11:20 p.m. in the 1200 block of West Patrick Street, Frederick, Md.
Officers saw a suspicious situation. An officer was then struck by a vehicle, authorities said. The officer fired his weapon into the vehicle and hit the driver, police said.
There was a pursuit until the area of Baughmans Lane and Shookstown Road, Frederick, Md., police said.
The driver was taken into custody and transported to the hospital for medical treatment, authorities said. The officer involved was also taken to the hospital.
The driver, Roy Turner, 45, of Frederick, Md. is being charged with several motor vehicle violations and felony, possession of a controlled dangers substance with the intent to distribute and failure to immediately stop vehicle at scene of accident involving bodily injury, according to authorities. A warrant has been obtained for Turner, authorities said.
The driver involved in the incident was released from the hospital Monday, authorities said.
Authorities identified the officer involved in the shooting as Officer James Martin, a 18-plus-year veteran of the Frederick Police Department. Police said Martin is assigned to the Special Operations Division, Drug Enforcement Unit for the past 12 years.
The investigation is still ongoing.
