FREDERICK, Md. (WUSA9) -- A Virginia man already in custody for drug charges was identified as the suspect in a motel robbery, the Frederick County Sheriff's office said.

On August 12th, the man entered the Sleep Inn on 361 Spectrum Drive and hid behind the counter. When the motel clerk came to see who had entered the motel the man jumped over the counter and attacked the clerk, the sheriff's office said.

The suspect had a knife and after a short struggle, the clerk surrendered and the suspect escape with money stolen from the front desk, the sheriff's office reported.

When officers from the Frederick Police Department saw the photos from the Sleep Inn's surveillance tape one of the officers recognized he suspect as a man who had been arrested two hours after the robbery on unrelated drug charges, the sheriff's office said.

The suspect was identified as 38-year-old Joshua Zembower of Leesburg. Zembower was at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center when he was identified, the sheriff's office said.

Zembower has been charged with armed robbery, first degree assault, theft under $1,000, second degree assault and reckless endangerment.
