HANOVER, Md. (WUSA9) -- Anne Arundel County police say a 67-year-old man left his handicapped 98-year-old mother in a hot car for hours while he gambled at Maryland Live! Casino.
Police responded to the casino parking lot around 6:37 p.m. Monday for a call to check on the well-being of an elderly woman located inside a truck.
The officers located a red Ford truck with North Carolina license plates and inside found the woman by herself. Police say she had been in the truck alone for nearly 5 hours and that her son, who was driving the vehicle, left her alone to go to the casino.
The female is confined to a wheelchair and is incapable of providing basic needs for herself, police say. The only evidence of food or drink in the vehicle was an empty soda can.

Police say the air temperature at the time of the report was 81 degrees, and the victim was found inside the truck with only one window partially cracked.
When initially approached, the victim seemed confused and responded incoherently to the officer's questions, police say. As the conversations continued, she became more coherent and was able to assist officers in locating her son.
She was provided with water and Anne Arundel County EMS was summoned to examine her. She was determined not to be in medical distress.
Her son, Dwight Ridgeway McGinnis, of the 6100 block of Tipping Circle in Raleigh, N.C., was charged with vulnerable adult neglect and was also served with an outstanding warrant for Failing to Appear for a driving suspended charge.
