GLEN BURNIE, Md. (WUSA9) -- Anne Arundel County Police are investigating an officer involved shooting that happened at Cromwell Light Rail Station in Glen Burnie Saturday evening and left a woman dead.

Police said deputies responded to the incident at 6:29 p.m. According to authorities, a police officer was flagged over by two people at the Cromwell Light Station bus loop shelter.

The two people asked the officer to intervene with a woman, who was also sitting in the shelter, authorities said. Police said the officer tried to talk to the suspect, however the suspect did not listen and started to choke and assault the officer.

Witnesses say, the officer was not able to get away from the suspect, so other people around tried to help get the suspect off her.

The officer was in fear for her life, according to authorities. She pulled out her service weapon and fired one shot, which hit the suspect in her upper leg.

Police said the officer and suspect were both taken to the hospital. The suspect was pronounced dead at the hospital. Authorities said, the officer is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect has been identified as Angela Beatrice Randolph, 38. The officer has been identified as Officer Tracy Turpin, a three year veteran of MTA Police. Police said she was treated and released. Turpin will be placed on routine administrative duties.
