NEW CAROLLTON, Md. (WUSA9) -- The New Carollton Police Department is searching for a man who assaulted a 9-year-old in New Carrollton early Sunday morning.
Police said the victim was assaulted in the 8400 block of Annapolis Road. According to authorities, the suspect grabbed the victim, threw the victim to the ground and then tried to sexually assault the victim.
The 9-year-old was able to stop the man and fled, police said. The child ran home and told family members.
Police say the suspect is being described as a black man in his twenties, and about 6 feet tall. He was wearing red shorts and a black shirt with a cartoon on the front with yellow in it.
He has a close cropped beard and did not appear to have any scars or tattoos.
