LEXINGTON PARK, Md. (WUSA9) -- A Lexington Park woman is charged with animal cruelty after law enforcement officials say she threw three puppies in a dumpster this week.
Forty-nine-year-old Tammy Maria Curtis is charged with three counts of animal cruelty after sheriff's office deputies responded to a complaint on May 4.
Officials say the owner of the puppies reported that Curtis claimed she had killed the puppies, and then refused to tell the victim where she had placed the puppies.
Later, someone found the puppies inside a plastic bag inside a community dumpster. They were still alive but were having difficulty breathing, according to officials.
Deputies later found that Curtis threw the puppies in the dumpster after an argument with the victim. She was arrested, transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center and charged.
