GLEN BURNIE, Md. (WUSA9) -- A 4-year-old boy drowned at a birthday party in Glen Burnie on Saturday evening, police said in a news release.
It happened at the 1100 block of Marley Creek Drive at around 5:41 p.m., police said.
Jaden Dixon, 4, of Glen Burnie, was pronounced dead, shortly after being taken to the hospital, police said.
"The child was attending a birthday party with a relative. The party was being held in the front yard of the home. The child, who was a guest at the party, was able to get into the back yard which was secured by gates. It appears he then made his way to a small pier by Marley Creek. After 3-5 minutes it was noticed that the child was missing. It was shortly thereafter that the child was observed floating in the creek," Anne Arundel County Police said in a news release.
Some people at the party jumped in to pull the boy out of the water. They called police and tried to administer CPR. When police arrived, Dixon was still not breathing. They rushed him to the hospital.
"The Crisis Response Team responded to the scene to assist witnesses and family members. In addition, the Criminal Investigation Division responded and took over the investigation. Early indication is that this was a tragic accident," police said in a news release.
