FREDERICK, Md. (WUSA9) -- Md. police arrested a 58-year-old man for trying to stab a victim with a knife in Frederick, Md. on Friday evening.

Police said they responded to 606 E. Patrick St. at 6:10 p.m. for the report of an assault. When they got to the scene the victim said he was having an argument with a man he knows, when the man tried to stab him.

Authorities said the fight was broken up by their girlfriends. The suspect then left the area, police said.

James F. Shanahan, 58, of Frederick, Md. was arrested and charged with attempted first degree assault and second degree assault. Shanahan was taken into custody and processed at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center, police said.
