ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. (WUSA9) -- Police say a number of nude photos of juveniles are being posted to social networking sites with references to various Anne Arundel County high schools.
The Anne Arundel County Police Department says they have received several complaints involving partially nude, nude, or sexually explicit photographs of juveniles being posted on social networking websites, such as Instagram.
Police said the images have been posted on several different pages on Instagram and in each posting an Anne Arundel County High School is referenced.
Authorities said the department investigates allegations of child pornography and is a part of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Based off of the current investigation, authorities said most of the images do not reach the level of child pornography under Maryland law, but authorities would like to bring awareness to this issue.
Authorities ask for the public to report issues to Instagram's Help Center at http://help.instagram.com/ or the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children's Cyber Tip Line at http://www.cybertipline.com/.
The police department also encourages parents to speak with their children regarding sexting and the dangers of posting nude or partially nude photos to website such as Instagram.
