PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. (WUSA9) -- Police are investigating a police-involved shooting that happened early Saturday morning in Prince George's County.
Prince George's County Police Department said two Prince George's County Police officers encountered an armed suspect just before 4 a.m. on Marlboro Pike at Lee Jay Drive.
Police said after officers and witnesses heard a shot fired in the area, the officers responded and saw a man who was leaving the area on foot, holding his side.
Authorities said, investigation shows that as the two officers approached the suspect, the person reached for a handgun in his waistband. One of the officers discharged his weapon several times, striking the suspect, police said.
The suspect, 24-year-old Robert Antonio Jones was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police said the suspect's gun was recovered at the scene. The officers who fired his weapon is currently on administrative leave until the outcome of the investigation.
Neither of the officers were hurt, according to authorities.
