MITCHELLVILLE, Md. (WUSA9) -- According to Prince George's County fire spokesperson Mark Brady, a firefighter fell into a basement of a burning structure on Thursday morning and was rescued by other firefighters.

The fire was reported at approximately 6:30 a.m.

The building in the 2900 block of Enterprise Road is used for storage by U.S. Park Police and is on the grounds of the National Capital Park and Planning Commission, says Brady.

Brady says there was heavy fire in the roof area of the building. Firefighters attacked the blaze from the outside first until they knocked down the bulk of the fire, according to Brady, then they went inside to check for other hot spots. That's when a firefighter fell from the first floor into the basement. He sounded a mayday according to protocol and he was rescued using a ground ladder, says Brady.

The firefighter was in good enough condition to use the ladder to get out, says Brady. He was still taken to a hospital for various injuries, but was listed in good condition.
