CARROLL COUNTY, Md. (WUSA9) -- The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office is currently investigating a fatal fire that happened early Sunday morning in Caroll County, Md.
Authorities said the fire happened at 2806 Flag Marsh Road in Mount Airy. Investigators are being helped by the Maryland State Police and the Carroll County Sheriff's Office.
The fire was discovered around 8:14 a.m. and caused over $200,000 in damage, authorities said.
According to authorities, the fire happened at a two story, wood frame, single family home. Over 50 firefighters responded to the fire. An elderly couple was inside of the home when the fire started.
One of the occupants was able to get out of the home without any injuries before the fire department arrived at the scene, authorities said.
Firefighters were able to find the other person in the home, however the occupant had already died, authorities said.
The victim was identified as 75-year-old Nancy H. Bullock.
The body will be taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for identification and to determine the cause of death.
Authorities say the fire started on the first floor in the living room area. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, authorities said.
Authorities added, there were no working smoke alarms in the house.
