BALTIMORE, Md. (WUSA9) -- TSA officials say a man was arrested Saturday at Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) with a gun and 36 rounds of ammunition.
Officials say the traveler was passing through the TSA security checkpoint when the officer staffing the X-ray machine spotted the handgun, a .380 Smith & Wesson, in the man's belongings. The gun was unloaded.
TSA contacted the Maryland Transportation Authority Police, who confiscated the gun and arrested the man on a state weapons charge.
Weapons—including firearms, firearm parts and ammunition—are not permitted in carry-on bags, but can be transported in checked bags if they are unloaded, properly packed and declared to the airline.
TSA has details on how to properly travel with a firearm posted on its website.
